Beef liver water
Known as the 'Fading Puppy Elixir' - Beef liver water has helped myself as well as my clients several times to
bring back puppies who are not wanting to eat or with little energy.

You'll need one beef liver from your local grocery/meat market. A cheap product that will come in handy to have put away in your freezer!
In a cooking pot, add two cups of water to your beef liver and simmer on LOW for 5 minutes or so. Just enough time to bring out the blood from the liver.
Your liquid should be a pink color. You will then separate the liquid from the chunk of beef liver and pour what you are not using immediately into an ice cube tray to freeze for later use as you cannot store the liquid in the fridge for much time before it will go bad. Puppies cannot have the actual beef liver itself as it is too rich, only the juice.
What to do with the liver?
Well, you COULD eat it yourself if you'd like liver....but your momma will benefit from eating it and most dogs love liver, so cut that bad boy up for her!
How Much Do I Give Each Puppy?
The way I have always done it with success is several drops from a syringe on the tongue for each puppy every feeding for 3 feedings (newborn - 1 week old pups should eat every 2 hrs, so you'll give a few drops every 2 hrs a total of 3 times in one day example; if you started at 12 pm, then 2 pm, then 4 pm). You should see your babies perk up.
Need some more tomorrow? Just pull out that ice cube tray you froze and thaw the little cubes as you need them. :)

Satin Balls
PLEASE NOTE: Satin Balls are not suitable for puppies, elderly dogs, or dogs that are overweight, have any history of pancreatitis,
HGE, IBD or any type of intestinal disease, kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, struvite crystals or urolithiasis, malabsorption, food sensitivities or 'sensitive stomach'.
Satin Balls is a canine recipe with raw meat meant to help dogs gain weight.
They're delicious little balls of meat and grains that your dog is going to LOVE.
The only downside to traditional satin balls is that they are not considered a complete and balanced meal (Due to lack of vitamins & minerals).
Gelatin is actually pretty good for your dog, on its own. It's about 99 percent pure protein, though it is missing some essential amino acids.
Jello itself is not a good choice because of the artificial sweeteners in it, like xylitol, that can be toxic to pups.
Gelatinous foods, however, can be a solid choice.

What Do I Need?
10 pounds hamburger meat (the cheapest kind)
1 lg. box of Total cereal
1 lg. box oatmeal
1 jar of wheat germ
1 1/4 cup veg oil
1 1/4 cup of unsulphured molasses
10 raw eggs AND shells
10 envelopes of unflavored gelatin
pinch of salt
However, if you just want to try them out or have a very small dog,
heres a small batch recipe (1/10th of the original):
1 pound cheap hamburger (for high fat %)
1 1/3 cups Total cereal
1 1/2 cups uncooked oatmeal
1 raw egg
6 tablespoons wheat germ
1 package Knox unflavored gelatin
2 tablespoons oil
2 tablespoons unsulphured molasses
Pinch of salt

Mix all ingredients together, much like you would a meatloaf.
Divide into zip locks as needed and freeze.
Thaw as needed and feed raw!
The only thing I suggest you change is the oil; vegetable oil has no health benefit,
so substitute it with an oil that does (like flax seed oil which is high in healthy omega 3s).

Mothers Pudding
Here’s the recipe for Mother’s Pudding (Puppy Culture Program)
Mothers Pudding is a great source of calcium, fat, and protein for lactating bitches, plus quick energy from the sugar. Bitches love it and will (in our experience) gladly lap it up even when they’re being finicky about their regular food. 1 batch is split in half and given to my 22 pound Frenchie once in the morning and the following morning as well (ie; half today, half tomorrow).

Pudding Recipe for Nursing Mothers:
1 package vanilla pudding (VERY IMPORTANT - DO NOT USE INSTANT PUDDING! It has an additive that can give the puppies diarrhea. Use the kind of pudding that has to be cooked!)
1/2 cup sugar
4 cups milk (I use raw goat milk but pasteurized goat or cows milk is fine if that's what you have)
4 egg yolks

1/2 cup sugar
4 cups milk (I use raw goat milk but pasteurized goat or cows milk is fine if that's what you have)
4 egg yolks
Cook on low heat to a pudding consistency.
I offer it to my bitches and let them pretty much have as much as they like.
It's basically the recipe on the pudding box with twice the amount of milk and extra egg yolks.

If you don't have a package of vanilla pudding on hand you can mix the following in a saucepan and cook to pudding consistency:
2/3 cup sugar
6 tablespoons cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 cups milk (or one can evaporated milk plus equal parts water to make quart)
4 egg yolks
3 teaspoon vanilla

Puppy Mush
- First of all, i'd like to mention that many people have different recipes for their mush.
- I will be sharing with you what has worked great for me with each litter that I've raised.
Grand Star's Puppy Mush Recipe
1 cup of the same dog food you are feeding mom or a high quality puppy food
2 cups of warm water
1 scoop (included scooper) of Esbilac Goats Milk Puppy Formula
(if you can find real goats milk, you can use 1 cup of that along with 1 cup or warm water rather
than 2 cups of warm water and the scoop of puppy formula)
If you are not feeding mom a high quality puppy food, i recommend doing so.
We feed Victor Hi-Pro and Victor Professional in house.
Directions for this recipe are very simple.
Soak puppy food in 2 cups of warm water and add scoop of goats milk formula. Blend to a loose consistency
Serving: I recommend using paper plates for the initial trial of mush with your babies.
We begin mush at 3 weeks and 3 days old.
Once babies are 4.5 weeks, you can use a round metal feeding pan and should have no issues.
Apply a very thin layer of mush to the bottom of the paper plate and prepare for the mess! :)
Your babies will have no idea how to eat anything but their mothers milk at this point, so they likely will have no idea what they are doing. Generally I will place a puppy right up to the mush and swipe a bit of mush onto my fingers, then put it up to the puppies mouth. If they dont start to lick it or have interest, I will make them taste it but swiping just a bit onto their tongues with my finger. Usually that does the trick. Some puppies are slower to catch on to eating mush that their siblings. Totally normal. They will get it! I feed as much as they want to eat each time watching for anyone struggling to eat or swallow with my bulb syringe handy incase i have to clear any noses or mouths that are covered in mush. Some babies will dive right in and stick their whole face flat into the mush. Be ready to clear up and clean - although once your done, momma would love to assist you in the clean and will usually eat right up any excess mush and clean up the babies. :) If you have no mom handy, simply have some small towels ready to wipe down those feet and snouts!
